Matthew McDermott is a PhD student in the MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. His research interests focus on representation learning for clinical and biomedical data, drawing on structure and external knowledge to improve model efficacy. Of particular interest is in extending novel pre-training algorithms designed for other domains (e.g., NLP) to work well over clinical and biomedical datasets. Matthew has previously interned at Microsoft Research, and prior to pursuing his PhD, received a BS in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College.
