Code of Conduct
The Association for Health Learning and Inference (AHLI) is committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, intellectually rigorous, and collaborative community. This Code of Conduct applies to all AHLI-affiliated events, including conferences, workshops, retreats, summer schools, virtual sessions, and community platforms. It applies to all participants, including attendees, authors, reviewers, speakers, organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and staff.
Our goal is to ensure that every individual can engage safely and respectfully, free from discrimination, harassment, or harm.
All participants, including organizers, reviewers, authors, speakers, media, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees at this conference and conference-associated social events are required to agree to this Code of Conduct both during the event and on official communication channels, including email and social media.
1. Acceptable Behavior
All participants are expected to:
1.1 Demonstrate Respect and Professionalism
- Engage in constructive, considerate, and respectful dialogue.
- Ensure that disagreements focus on ideas, not individuals.
- Recognize and value diverse backgrounds, identities, expertise, and perspectives.
1.2 Promote an Inclusive and Supportive Environment
- Be mindful of language, tone, and conduct that may exclude or marginalize others.
- Give space for all voices, particularly those who may be new, junior, or underrepresented.
- Avoid interrupting, dominating discussions, or dismissing contributions.
1.3 Uphold Scientific Integrity
- Present work honestly and transparently.
- Honor confidentiality in peer-review processes.
- Follow all policies related to data use, privacy, authorship, and conflict of interest.
1.4 Respect Boundaries and Personal Space
- Obtain consent before physically touching or photographing someone.
- Respect personal, cultural, and professional boundaries.
- Use care in social settings, especially when alcohol is present.
2. Unacceptable Behavior
The following behaviors are strictly prohibited and may result in removal from the event or additional consequences:
2.1 Harassment and Discrimination
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Verbal, written, or physical harassment.
- Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, or age.
- Intimidation, stalking, or following.
- Unwelcome sexual attention, physical contact, or propositions.
- Persistent unwanted communication.
2.2 Disruptive or Harmful Conduct
- Sustained disruption of talks, sessions, or discussions.
- Aggressive confrontations or escalation of conflicts.
- Doxxing or publishing private information without explicit consent.
2.3 Abuse of Power
- Using seniority, position, or influence to intimidate, pressure, or silence others.
- Retaliation for raising a concern or filing a report.
- Exploiting mentorship, reviewer, or organizer roles.
2.4 Violations of Privacy or Confidentiality
- Sharing non-public peer-review information.
- Misuse of recordings, photos, or identifiable participant information.
- Posting screenshots or quotes from closed meetings without permission.
2.5 Illegal or Dangerous Behavior
- Theft, assault, or property damage.
- Possessing or distributing illegal substances.
- Any actions that jeopardize the safety of others.
3. Alcohol and Social Events
AHLI values social spaces as opportunities for community building. To ensure safety:
- Alcohol consumption should remain moderate and never impair respectful behavior.
- Intoxication will not excuse misconduct.
- Participants must not pressure others to drink or participate in activities that make them uncomfortable.
Reporting a Concern
AHLI staff, leadership, and conference organizers will enforce this Code and it is expected that all participants cooperate. By participating in this event, you agree to adhering to the Code of Conduct and Community Guidelines available in its entirety on the conference website. Violation of this Code of Conduct may result in revocation of your registration and removal from the event.
AHLI encourages participants to report any behavior that violates this Code of Conduct. Reports may be made during an event by speaking with an organizer, staff member, or dedicated officer. To make a complaint after an event concludes, please email support@ahli.cc. Reports may be made anonymously, although doing so may limit AHLI’s ability to fully investigate.
